Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Specialist Disability Accommodation, known as SDA, is an NDIS-funded housing solution for participants who need purpose-built or highly modified homes due to extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. First Priority Care works with participants and support coordinators to help eligible participants access SDA housing across Queensland.

Who is this service for?

  • Have a significant and permanent physical, cognitive or neurological disability that severely limits their ability to perform daily tasks
  • Require support from a second person, or assistive technology, for most daily activities
  • Would benefit from purpose-built design features such as ceiling hoists, hospital-grade bathrooms, reinforced walls or emergency call systems

How we deliver it

We work with eligible participants, families and support coordinators to identify suitable SDA properties in the participant's preferred location, coordinate the transition from current housing into SDA, deliver SIL supports within the SDA property (SDA and SIL are often provided together), and liaise with SDA developers and property managers on the participant's behalf.

NDIS funding

SDA is funding for the home, not the support. It covers the cost of specially built or modified accommodation designed to meet the needs of participants who cannot be safely or appropriately housed in standard properties. SDA homes are built to one of four design categories: Improved Liveability, Fully Accessible, Robust or High Physical Support. SDA funding is separate from your Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding and from your other NDIS supports. To access SDA, you must have SDA included in your NDIS plan.
