Switching to First Priority Care
Changing NDIS providers is your right, and it's far simpler than most people expect. You keep your plan, your funding and your support coordinator. We handle the handover. Here's exactly how it works.
You can change providers at any time.
Choice and control sit at the heart of the NDIS. That means you are free to change the providers who deliver your supports whenever you choose, and you never have to explain why. If a provider isn't turning up reliably, isn't communicating, or simply isn't the right fit, you don't have to stay.
Switching does not put your NDIS plan at risk. Your funding, budgets and plan dates are unchanged. You're only changing who provides your supports. The whole process usually comes down to a notice period and a little coordination, and we manage the coordination for you.
A note before you go: if you're unhappy with us at any point, please tell us first. We'd genuinely rather fix a problem than lose you. But the door is never locked, and that's how it should be.
How to change your NDIS provider.
Five straightforward steps, most of which we handle alongside you.
- 1
Talk to us first, no commitment
Call 1800 402 205 or send a message and tell us what you need and what isn't working with your current provider. The first conversation is free, with no obligation. We'll be honest about whether we're the right fit before anything else happens.
- 2
Check your service agreement
Find the notice period in your current provider's service agreement. Most agreements, including ours, use a standard 14-day notice period. You don't have to give a reason for leaving, and there should be no exit fees.
- 3
Give written notice
Send your current provider written notice that you're ending the agreement. A short email is enough. If you'd rather not do this alone, your support coordinator can do it for you, or we can help you draft it.
- 4
Complete intake with First Priority Care
We complete your intake, understanding your goals, your supports and any clinical needs, then prepare a service agreement and care plan. For participants with clinical needs, this includes a nursing intake assessment.
- 5
Start your supports
Once your intake is complete and your service agreement is signed, we begin. Most participants start within 5–10 business days. We line up your start date so there's no gap between your old supports ending and your new ones beginning.
14-day notice. No fees.
You can change providers at any time, and that's your right under the NDIS. Our service agreements have a standard 14-day notice period, no fees and no questions. Most other providers work the same way; the figure is set out in your current service agreement, so it's worth a quick check before you give notice.
Notice simply needs to be in writing. A short email to your current provider is enough. You don't have to justify your decision, and a registered provider should never charge an exit fee for leaving.
What "no out-of-pocket cost" means
Everything we provide is billed at NDIS price-guide rates and paid directly by your NDIS plan or your plan manager. That includes:
- Your intake and care planning
- All support and nursing delivered under your plan
- The first call to talk through your needs: free, no obligation
No gap in your support.
The biggest worry people have about switching is a break in support during the changeover. We plan specifically to avoid that.
- Your NDIS plan stays exactly the same. Switching providers does not change your funding, budgets or plan dates.
- You keep your support coordinator and plan manager if you want to. You only change the provider you're unhappy with, not your whole team.
- We schedule your start date to overlap with your notice period, so there's no gap in support.
- For clinical care, our registered nurses review your existing care plan before your first shift so nothing is missed in the handover.
We handle the handover for you.
You shouldn't have to project-manage your own move between providers. Once you've given notice, we coordinate the practical side with everyone involved: your previous provider, your support coordinator and your plan manager.
- We coordinate directly with your outgoing provider on dates, handover of any care documentation and the safe return of any equipment.
- We brief your support coordinator on the transition timeline and keep them updated at each step.
- We confirm billing arrangements with your plan manager (or the NDIA, if you're agency-managed) before your first shift so claiming is seamless.
- Where there's a clinical care plan, our nurses request and review it so your new support team starts fully informed.
